The publishing house traces its origins back to the "Librairie Larousse et Boyer," founded in 1852 by Pierre Larousse and Augustin Boyer. The publisher remained independent until 1983, when it was first acquired by "CEP Communication," then by the French media conglomerate Vivendi in 1998, and finally by Hachette Livre in 2004.
