Space Invaders is a shoot-ˋem-up computer game that, together with Pac-Man, shaped the development of the first video games. Space Invaders was programmed by Tomohiro Nishikado and distributed by Taito.

In the game, the player must use a self-controlled cannon to attack aliens, which move horizontally and also launch attacks against the player. To protect himself, the player has so-called blocks behind which he can hide, unless these blocks are destroyed by the player himself or the aliens. However, if an alien manages to advance that far and reach the bottom of the screen next to the cannon, the player loses one of his lives.
