Description:
MGM, or in full name: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, is a U.S. film production and distribution company founded in 1924 by Marcus Loew and Louis B. Mayer in Beverly Hills, California. From 1951 to 1969, MGM's decline was heralded by the coming of the television industry, and audiences also felt that MGM's glossy films were old-fashioned. Numerous attempts to pull the company back up failed. Because of the high debts, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer was finally sold by Kirk Kekorian along with its subsidiaries to Sony Pictures. In 2010 MGM was then taken over by Spyglass Entertainment and they were able to show good balance sheets again due to big movies like James Bond.
In March 2022 MGM was sold again and the nearly 4,000 films and all other rights and program hours were taken over by Amazon. Today, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer can boast many well-known films and series, including James Bond, Pink Panther, Legally Blonde, The Hobbit and numerous other hit movies.
