Description:
Heavysaurus is a German heavy metal band founded in 2017, based on the concept of the Finnish band Hevisaurus, which was created in 2009. A Spanish-speaking band has existed under the name Heavysaurios in Argentina since 2012.
The concept of Heavysaurus traces back to the 2009 music project by Thunderstone drummer Mirka Rantanen, who wanted a child-friendly metal band for his then five-year-old son who was interested in Metallica, Guns n’ Roses, and Iron Maiden, leading to the later creation of Hevisaurus.
On May 18, 2018, their first album Rock'n'Rarr was released by Europa Kinderwelt, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment.
The songs, except for the ten-minute, audio-drama styled introduction, range from two to four minutes in length, catering to the attention span of children. The audio drama is well-told and child-friendly, featuring an amusing narrative style and focusing on the characters – four dinosaurs and a dragon – making it very interesting. The lyrics are kept simple, targeting an audience aged between three and ten years.
Like the original Finnish project, performances by the German offshoot ensure a child-friendly volume level, capped at 85 decibels. The five musicians appear in dinosaur costumes in their music videos, live concerts, and autograph sessions, becoming an indispensable part of the stages at 150 concerts a year.
